3 Ingredient homemade Chocolate Spread

Chocolate spread is always one of those things that I really enjoy but I don’t always have a jar indoors. Over the past few years, I have been taking a lot more care about what I put into my body, along with researching a little deeper into what is good and bad. One thing we decided to do in the last year is removing seed oils from our diet and when hunting for a supermarket chocolate spread which didn’t have anything nasty in I was forever coming up short.

So, with that in mind I decided the only way I was going to get exactly what I wanted was if I was to make it myself. So that is exactly what I did. First I had a quick browse on Pinterest and nothing was taking my fancy or I didn’t have the ingredients in the pantry, so I did what I am known best for – I went rogue. That’s right, I thought up a way in which I could make a chocolate spread, made up the measurements, made up the ingredients and I totally lucked out because what I ended up making was two different chocolate spreads that taste absolutely amazing.

Today I am going to share with you my plain chocolate spread recipe and keep your eyes peeled because in a couple of weeks I will be sharing a homemade Nutella version of this recipe too. In my opinion, both of them taste amazing and I really feel like I lucked out when it came to this recipe as I got it right on the first try and because it only includes a couple of natural ingredients I can give this to my daughter and eat it myself without worry. I love this on toast and also pancakes the most, but I bet it would also make some great chocolate spread sandwiches as a treat for the little ones too.

This recipe isn’t a vegan recipe but is easily adaptable to become a vegan recipe. All you would need is a vegan equivalent of butter and you could swap the honey for a maple syrup.

Right, let’s dive straight into the recipe.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 50 g Grass fed butter
  • 2 tbsp Raw Cacao Powder
  • 1 tsp Honey

Instructions

  1. Cream butter in a bowl (you can microwave it to soften it if needed) until it is a smooth mixture.
  2. Add honey to butter and mix until smooth.
  3. Add the cacao powder and mix until smooth.
  4. Move to a small jar and refrigerate.

As you can see this recipe is incredibly simple and takes just minutes to make. This only makes a small amount but that works well given how quick it is to make and ensures the freshness of the ingredients. Once in the fridge the mixture will harden and although spreadable with the warmth of toast you might need to leave it for 5 minutes to soften for bread.
